'I decided to have a little fun': Tenant gets even with difficult, noisy neighbor by playing random "alien" sounds in the middle of the night

  • "The Neighbor Who Thought I Was an Easy Target"

I just moved into a new apartment, and from day one, one of my neighbors decided I was "too quiet" and easy to push around. She'd blast music late at night, leave trash in the hallway, and complain to the building manager about things I hadn't even done.
  • At first, I tried to ignore it, but it got ridiculous when she started knocking on my door unannounced to "check if I was being too loud," even though I barely had anyone over.

  • So, I decided to have a little fun. I bought a set of tiny wireless speakers and hid them in the walls near her apartment. Then I started playing the weirdest, most random sounds at random times, duck quacks, alien noises,

  • someone chanting "I am a pickle," all super faint so she'd hear it but couldn't tell where it was coming from.

  • She completely freaked out. Asked neighbors if they heard it, paced around her apartment, even bought sound meters trying to prove I was the culprit. Every time she thought she'd caught me, the sounds would stop.

  • Within a week, she gave up on bothering me. She even moved out a month later, and I never had another problem.

  • Honestly, it felt amazing to turn the tables without ever confronting her directly. Sometimes, the best revenge is just using your brain and letting her dig her own hole.

  • OP Aggravating-Slip-243 Thanks! Honestly, it wasn't anything fancy. The speakers were really small, so I just slipped one behind the hallway radiator and tucked another on top of the built-in cabinet near her side of the wall. They were wireless, so I didn't need any cords showing. The trick was just keeping the volume low enough that it sounded like "background weirdness" instead of obvious noise. Super simple setup, but it did the job.

  • StarryLanguage Brilliant strategy. Glad it worked so well. How did you actually hide the speakers? Let's have a tutorial.

  • OP Aggravating-Slip-243 Yeah, honestly, I think she just couldn't handle it. The stress probably made her want to leave faster than anything else.

  • LynnScoot Sounds like a mental illness to me. It would also make sense as to why she moved out so quickly.
    via Aggravating-Slip-243
  • OP Aggravating-Slip-243 Yeah, could be a lot of things going on with her. I just focused on keeping my peace and letting her stress herself out.

  • loudknitter Along with mental health issues, it also sounds like potential drug induced paranoia, along with the other things OP mentioned, potentially stimulant abuse (meth most likely)
    via Aggravating-Slip-243
  • OP Aggravating-Slip-243 I didn't actually go into the walls. There were small gaps and open spots around the radiator and the built-in cabinet, so I just slid the tiny speakers in there. No real "wall breaking" or anything like that.

  • ElectroPurist How did you get in the walls?
    via Aggravating-Slip-243
  • OP Aggravating-Slip-243 Nope, they're battery powered. I just made sure to charge them before using and they lasted long enough to do the job.
    via Aggravating-Slip-243
  • Quiet-Compote7169 Do the tiny speakers have unlimited power?
    via Aggravating-Slip-243
  • OP Aggravating-Slip-243 That's fair. I only turned them on for short bursts at random times, so she never had a chance to find them.
    via Aggravating-Slip-243
  • Quiet-Compote7169 I don't buy it. Would have found one or all if they were continuously on.

  • LadyA052 One guy found his loud neighbor's printer on the network. He started printing the "chicken chicken chicken" document on their printer at random times. The husband would yell at the wife asking why she kept printing the stupid chicken pages! Here you go. https://www.google.com/search? client=firefox-b-1- e&q=chicken+chicken+chicken You're welcome. EDIT Here is a presentation of the document. https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=yL\-1d90Sdk&t=30s
